The thing abut Unique's catwalks is I find there is little correlation between seasons. Its almost as if the scrap book of the previous season is thrown out of the window and a whole new perspective on cut, style, and aesthetic is thought up. I do like this as it makes the whole process quite refreshing but in the words of Ashish Gupta "The mood has to change, but the essence must always stay the same".
I was a little dissapointed. Again, I find I have a love hate emotion for each design. The collection was definitively young and had a Dalston-esque appeal but some of the clothes were truly hideous.
Decide for yourselves. Here's a selection of my favourites and the ones I shudder to think of. Off of a model and on your average Topshop shopper, 'unique' isn't the word I'm looking for. Tacky would be more fitting.
Now here is a dress I can covet. See through stripes with an evil eye. Yes Please.
One things for sure, Topshop Unique are definitely trying to make the 90's happen.
One of my favourites was the James Long show. I literally squealed in my chair whilst flicking through the collection.
Having been hailed the Menswear designer who could do no wrong, his womenswear collection last season was an exciting debut.
This season however, I feel he will be the name on everyone's lips. Beautifully creative, playful and wearable were my first thoughts, the next was, I wish there was more. With only 12 designs as part of the Fashion East schedule, I'm looking forward to next season already.
And now for a few randoms...
Peter Pilotto
Holly Fulton
Richard Nicoll
Ashish
Sass & Bide
Basso & Brooke
Christopher Kane
I'll leave you with a photo I took this evening. The sunset turned these buildings a warm golden yellow. The perks of staying at work late.
